Ann Widdecombe was attacked on Wednesday afternoon, nearly twenty-four hours before she was found dead, police believe.

Devon and Cornwall Police think the attack happened at around twelve-thirty. Officers were called to the former MP’s home at eleven-forty on Thursday, where she was discovered with serious injuries. Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman said the death is suspicious but there is no wider public risk.

The TV presenter Dermot Murnaghan has died at the age of sixty-eight, a year after revealing a stage four prostate cancer diagnosis.

The former BBC, ITV and Sky News journalist passed away peacefully at home in North London this morning with his family at his side. Murnaghan was a fixture on British television news across five decades, presenting flagship programmes.
