Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown has been appointed as a special envoy on global finance.

Downing Street says the prime minister has committed to boosting the country’s security and resilience, and in the role Brown will advise on how global finance co operation can help achieve that aim. The appointment follows former deputy prime minister Harriet Harman becoming an adviser on women and girls.

Two men have been charged with religiously aggravated harassment offences after allegations they travelled to an area with a significant Jewish population to film antisemitic social media videos.

Adam Bedoui, twenty, and Abdelkader Amir Bousloub, twenty one, are due before Thames Magistrates’ Court on Saturday. The men, both from Hillingdon in west London, are charged with religiously aggravated intentional harassment and intentional harassment linked to allegations Jewish people in Stamford Hill were approached, harassed and filmed.

A car has hit several pedestrians in Arnold, Nottingham, leaving one man with life threatening injuries.

Nottinghamshire Police say the red Vauxhall Astra struck people in Market Place shortly after one o’clock on Saturday morning. The vehicle was abandoned at the scene and the driver fled on foot. Officers say they have identified a suspect, believed to be a white man, and are trying to trace him.

Deputy Labour leader Lucy Powell has defended Keir Starmer’s position and said a Labour leadership contest would be very distracting.

Around two dozen Labour MPs have called for Starmer to resign, but Powell said the prime minister takes responsibility for election results and should continue as leader. She told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that setting out a timetable would only start a distracting debate about leadership.

Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly and BBC Radio Two presenter Vernon Kay have announced they are separating.

In a joint statement on Instagram, they said the decision followed consideration and came from a place of mutual understanding. The couple married in September 2003 and said they remain friends and are committed to their roles as parents.
