At least two senior Labour MPs are considering leadership bids to prevent Andy Burnham from becoming prime minister without a formal contest.

Former defence minister Al Carns and Chief Secretary Darren Jones are both weighing up challenges. Many MPs believe Burnham could take power by mid-July, following Sir Keir Starmer’s resignation on Monday, though others are uncomfortable with an untested candidate.

The first drug that can delay the onset of type one diabetes is being made available on the NHS in England and Wales.

Teplizumab, a form of immunotherapy, can give people three extra years before they develop symptoms and need lifelong insulin. The NHS medicines body described the decision as genuinely exciting, with hundreds of young people benefiting.

A ransom note sent after the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, the eighty-four year old mother of US presenter Savannah Guthrie, claimed she had died.

The note, sent to news media days after the January kidnapping, included an apology from the suspects. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department stated that the active investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
