Three people have died following a virus outbreak on board a cruise ship, with five more suspected cases under investigation.
One case of Hantavirus has been confirmed on the MV Hondius. The illness is typically linked to exposure to infected rodents’ urine or faeces and can lead to severe respiratory problems. The ship had been travelling from Argentina to Cape Verde.
Iran has received a response from the United States to its latest peace proposal, according to Iranian state linked media.
A foreign ministry spokesperson said the reply, delivered via Pakistan, is now under review. The US has not formally confirmed a response, although President Donald Trump reportedly described the proposal as unacceptable. Iran’s plan included calls for US forces to withdraw from near its borders, an end to the naval blockade, and a halt to hostilities.
A driver has died following a crash on the A404M near Maidenhead, with another man taken to hospital.
The collision happened just before nine twenty five on Saturday night and involved a grey Peugeot four oh seven and a white Toyota Auris. Thames Valley Police said the Peugeot driver died at the scene, while the Toyota driver, a man in his fifties, suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital.
A woman and a man have been killed in an explosion following what police describe as a domestic related incident in Bristol.
Officers were called to Sterncourt Road at seventeen minutes past six on Saturday morning, with the blast happening shortly afterwards. Three other people, a man, a woman and a child, suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital. Police say there is not believed to be significant damage to other properties.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been taken to hospital after feeling unwell at Old Trafford before Manchester United’s match against Liverpool.
It is understood he is conscious and has undergone precautionary checks. The eighty four year old managed the club for nearly twenty seven years until retiring in twenty thirteen. He took charge of fifteen hundred games, leading the team to thirteen Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two Champions League wins.
Two adults have died after an explosion at a house in Sterncourt Road in Bristol.
Avon and Somerset Police say the blast is being treated as suspicious and a major incident has been declared. Emergency services were called to the scene this morning, with investigations now under way to establish the cause of the explosion and the circumstances surrounding it.
The transport secretary has described the reaction of Green leader Zack Polanski to the Golders Green attack as absolutely abhorrent.
Polanski had reshared a post suggesting police may have been heavy handed when detaining the attacker before later apologising following criticism from the Metropolitan Police. Heidi Alexander said officers ran towards danger armed only with a Taser which had already been discharged while the suspect still held a knife.
Two women have died while attempting to cross the English Channel from France in a small boat.
The vessel ran aground on a beach in northern France and was carrying around eighty two people. Three other passengers are reported to be in a critical condition. The two women who died are believed to have been in their twenties and of Sudanese origin according to local officials.
Airlines will be allowed to move passengers between flights under a temporary rule change announced by the government.
The Department for Transport says the measure will help reduce pressure on jet fuel supplies by allowing carriers to consolidate journeys where multiple flights operate to the same destination on the same day. Travellers could be transferred to similar services to avoid planes flying with empty seats or routes being cancelled. The plan has already drawn criticism, with Conservatives warning passengers could be moved at the airline’s choosing, while consumer group Which? says rules should not be bent in favour of airlines.
A man has been jailed for knife offences in Slough town centre.
Rudy Hansell, 72, of Bath Road, was sentenced to six months in prison at Reading Magistrates’ Court. He pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article in a public place. Thames Valley Police said an officer spotted him on the High Street wearing what appeared to be a concealed knife or blade around a chain on his neck.
