At least three people have died after a train derailed in southern Germany.
Police say the incident happened near the town of Riedlingen on Sunday evening. Two carriages came off the tracks just after 6 o’clock local time, between Riedlingen and Munderkingen. Around 100 people were on board at the time.
Images from the scene show the train lying on its side, with emergency crews on top of the wreckage trying to reach those inside. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
A man has been charged after leading police on a high-speed chase through Essex, reaching speeds of over 150 miles an hour.
Majid Masoud Saad, aged 31, from Barking in east London, faces charges of drink driving, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police. The Metropolitan Police were initially involved before officers in Essex took over. Several tactical measures were used to finally bring the car to a stop in Ongar.
No injuries were reported, but police say it could have ended very differently.

Donald Trump says the United States and European Union have agreed a new trade deal.
The US president made the announcement following talks with European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen at his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland. Mr Trump called it the “biggest deal ever made”, claiming it will be good news for cars and have a major impact on agriculture. Under the deal, the US will impose a 15% tariff on EU imports. That’s down from the 30% previously threatened.

Caillon, a former personal trainer, has appeared on Australia’s version of the show and completed two triathlons this year. The full celebrity cast for this year’s Strictly is expected to be revealed next month.
A robbery investigation is underway after a young male had his phone stolen near Iver train station.
The incident happened just before 9am last Thursday in an alleyway between Thorney Lane and the station. Thames Valley Police say the suspect, dressed entirely in black with a balaclava and helmet, rode off on a black e-bike towards Thorney Lane South. Officers have released a CCTV image of a person they want to speak to.
Donald Trump says the chances of a new trade deal between the United States and the European Union are “50-50.”
The US president made the comments while playing golf at his Turnberry resort in Scotland, ahead of a key meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen later today. The talks come just days before Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs are due to kick in on August 1st. Those include steep duties on over 70 percent of EU exports — with levies of 50 percent on steel and aluminium, 25 percent on cars and car parts, and a 10 percent tariff on most other goods, rising to 30 percent next week.

Slough Borough Council has approved a new youth justice plan aimed at keeping young people out of the criminal justice system.
The move follows a critical inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation, which rated Slough’s Youth Justice Service as ‘Inadequate’ earlier this year. Inspectors called for improved communication with children and better training for staff and volunteers. Director of Operations Ben Short says the council is focused on early intervention, knife crime prevention, and supporting young people through a new multi-agency team addressing risks outside the home.
At least 11 people have been stabbed at a Walmart in Michigan, with six victims in a critical condition.
Authorities say the suspect used a folding-style knife near the checkout area in what appears to be a random attack. The suspect, who is from Michigan and unknown to police, was arrested within three minutes thanks to what officials described as swift citizen involvement. Sheriff Michael Shea said, “Eleven is 11 too many, but thank God it wasn’t more.” Investigations are continuing.
£1.8 million has been allocated to tackle serious violence across the Thames Valley.
The funding, secured from the Home Office, will be used to support initiatives led by the region’s Violence Prevention Partnership. Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Barber said there’s no single solution to tackling the problem, but the impact of serious violence can be devastating. He says the new investment will help address the root causes and support those most at risk.
Wildfires are continuing to threaten parts of Athens after more than 50 separate blazes were reported within 24 hours.
Dry conditions, extreme heat and strong winds have fuelled the fires, with residents in Kryoneri, just outside the Greek capital, ordered to evacuate. At least five people, most of them elderly, have been treated in hospital for burns and smoke inhalation. Around 150 firefighters are on the ground, supported by dozens of engines, planes and helicopters.
Israel has announced a “tactical pause” in its military operation in Gaza as humanitarian pressure continues to mount.
The pause will apply daily from 10am to 8pm local time in three areas: Muwasi, Deir al Balah and Gaza City. The Israeli military says secure routes will also be set up to allow food and aid deliveries, operating daily between 6am and 11pm. The UN has welcomed the move but says much more is needed.
