A man has been shot dead and details emerged during a press conference in Minneapolis.

Police chief Brian O’Hara said officers attended a shooting involving federal agents and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. He confirmed the man died and, based on limited information, is believed to be a 37 year old Minneapolis resident and US citizen.

Andy Burnham says he has sought permission to enter Labour’s selection process for the upcoming Gorton and Denton by election.

The Greater Manchester mayor said on X he had written to the chair of Labour’s National Executive Committee seeking approval. The move follows former minister Andrew Gwynne stepping down on health grounds. As a elected mayor, Burnham needs NEC permission.

Every police officer in England and Wales will be required to hold a licence to continue working, the Home Office has said.
