A father has been jailed for 10 years after crashing his car while high on cocaine and suffering an epileptic fit, killing his teenage son.

Daniel Burba was driving his wife’s Peugeot van on the M6 near Lancaster in April when it veered off the road and hit a tree.

His 14-year-old son, Ryan Morgan, died at the scene from head injuries. The crash happened between junctions 34 and 33 on the southbound side.

Three men have been jailed after a woman was left with life-changing injuries when a car was rammed into her home in the middle of the night.

It happened at 2am on 17 August last year, when a black Range Rover was driven into a Mercedes parked on a driveway in Northern Road. The force pushed the Mercedes into the house, collapsing the porch on top of the woman in her forties.

Abdul Kayani, Abdifatah Mohamoud, and Mohammed Subhani have all been sentenced.

The father of a man who died after falling from Wembley Stadium says there are “questions about the barriers.”

Lee Claydon, a 45-year-old landscape gardener, fell to his death at the end of an Oasis concert. His father, Clive, described him as a hard-working family man with everything to live for.
He says he’s been left devastated and is struggling to cope with the loss.

Two people who used stolen bank cards for breakfast and a taxi have appeared in court.

Paul Murphy and Anita Bali used cards taken during a burglary in Slough to shop in various stores and pay for a meal at the Holiday Inn Express in Brands Hill.

They were arrested separately in October last year and now face sentencing.

A toxic workplace culture was one of several contributing factors in the implosion of the Titan submersible, according to a new report.

The US Coast Guard’s Marine Board of Investigation found that the loss of all five people onboard was preventable. The victims included OceanGate founder Stockton Rush, British adventurer Hamish Harding, Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood with his son Suleman.

The 335-page report makes 17 safety recommendations, which investigators say are designed to help prevent future disasters.

Aldi is no longer the UK’s cheapest supermarket — for the first time in nearly two years. Lidl has overtaken its budget rival in the latest monthly price check by Which?

A basket of 76 everyday items cost £128.40 at Lidl in July, compared to £129.25 at Aldi — a difference of 85p.

Meanwhile, for larger trolley shops of nearly 200 items, Asda continues to offer the best value, beating Tesco even with Clubcard discounts.

Tommy Robinson has been released on bail following his arrest over an alleged assault at St Pancras station.

The 42-year-old, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was arrested at Luton Airport on Monday night. Video circulating on social media appears to show him near a man lying unconscious on the floor.

British Transport Police say the incident happened on 28 July. Robinson has been bailed and is due to return to police on 2 September.

Thousands of obese patients are facing delays in accessing the new weight-loss drug Mounjaro, despite NHS promises to make it widely available.

The injection was approved in June but research shows just 8 out of 42 NHS care boards in England are offering it.

Many areas have no start date or cannot confirm when it will be available.

Critics blame poor planning, underfunding, and a postcode lottery for the patchy rollout.

TV presenter Jay Blades has been charged with two counts of rape.

The Repair Shop host, who is 55 and lives in Shropshire, is due before magistrates in Telford next Wednesday. West Mercia Police confirmed the charges but have not provided any further details at this stage.

People should do more to challenge shoplifters, according to Thames Valley’s Police and Crime Commissioner, but his comments have drawn strong criticism.

Matthew Barber made the remarks at a Police and Crime Panel meeting in June, telling members that both shop staff and members of the public should do more to challenge theft when they see it.

He said we all have a responsibility to be good citizens, and shared an example from High Wycombe where a known shoplifter regularly walks into an M&S, grabs a sandwich and leaves — unchallenged. Barber said a customer once asked a cashier why they should even pay, if nothing was being done to stop theft.

But the comments haven’t gone down well with everyone. MP Joshua Reynolds called them “irresponsible” and “dangerous”, warning that encouraging members of the public to intervene could put people at risk.

The debate comes as many retailers report a sharp rise in shoplifting and abuse of staff across the country.

Police are warning that mass arrests could be made if a planned protest in support of the banned group Palestine Action goes ahead this Saturday.

Hundreds of people are expected to take part in the demonstration, believed to be taking place in London.

The Metropolitan Police say anyone showing support for the group can expect to be arrested.

A spokesperson said organisers are encouraging large numbers to turn out with the aim of putting pressure on both the police and the wider criminal justice system.

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is due in court today, facing multiple charges of rape and sexual assault.

The 32-year-old was charged just days after leaving the club in June, when his contract expired.

He’s accused of raping two women between 2021 and 2022, facing five counts in total — two involving one woman, and three involving another.

There is also a separate charge of sexual assault involving a third woman, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The Metropolitan Police say the first report of rape was made in February 2022.

People coming off weight-loss injections like Wegovy and Mounjaro should have regular check-ups for at least a year to help prevent regaining weight, according to new NHS guidance.

The advice comes from NICE, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, which says managing weight is a long-term process — not a quick fix.

Evidence shows that many people put most of the weight back on after stopping treatment.

Patients are being advised to have a support plan in place, including healthy eating, exercise, and regular follow-up appointments to help maintain progress.

Disruption from Storm Floris is expected to continue today as clear-up efforts carry on following Monday’s severe weather.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks say they’re still working to restore power to homes, after around 50,000 properties were left without electricity.

Network Rail reported 119 incidents across Scotland’s railways, with teams working through the night to clear debris after winds reached up to 90 miles an hour in some areas.

Further strong gusts of up to 70 miles an hour were forecast overnight in Orkney and Shetland, with a Met Office yellow warning remaining in place until 8am.
