Police say a 32-year-old man from Peterborough is now being treated as the only suspect in an attempted murder investigation.

Officers had initially arrested two men — a 32-year-old black British national and a 35-year-old man of Caribbean descent — but the latter has been released without charge. A police spokesperson said it had been reported in good faith that he was involved, but enquiries confirmed otherwise.

The 32-year-old remains in custody on suspicion of attempted murder.

Hamas says it will hand over the bodies of three newly recovered hostages to Israel tonight.

The move follows confusion on Saturday, when Israeli officials said the remains of three people returned earlier did not match any of the missing hostages. The exchange is due to take place at 8pm local time, six o’clock in the UK.

It comes after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered renewed airstrikes on Gaza, accusing Hamas of returning the body of a hostage already repatriated.

India have won their first-ever Women’s Cricket World Cup, beating South Africa by 52 runs in a dramatic final in Navi Mumbai.

After rain delayed the start by two hours, India posted a strong total of 298 for seven, with Shafali Verma hitting 87 and Deepti Sharma adding 58.

South Africa’s captain, Laura Wolvaardt, made a stunning century to keep her side in contention, but they fell short after a tense finish before a sold-out crowd.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a mass stabbing on a train left two people critically injured.

At least nine others were also hurt in the attack, which happened on a service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross on Saturday night. British Transport Police said officers were deployed to Huntingdon station in Cambridgeshire within minutes of the first 999 call at 7.42pm.

Superintendent John Loveless confirmed the suspects were detained just eight minutes after that call was made.

The government is moving to remove Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s final honorary military title at the King’s request.

Defence Secretary John Healey said King Charles had made clear he wanted the step to be taken. Andrew, who was formally stripped of his title as a prince on Thursday, has so far retained his position as a Vice Admiral in the Royal Navy, despite giving up other roles in 2022.

Healey said the process to remove that remaining title is now underway.

Counter-terrorism police are leading an investigation after a mass stabbing on board a train left nine people fighting for their lives.

The high-speed service was halted at Huntingdon station in Cambridgeshire after the first 999 calls were made at 7.39 on Saturday evening. Witnesses say a man armed with a large knife went on a bloody rampage before being subdued by officers using a Taser.

British Transport Police confirmed two arrests have been made and ten people in total were taken to hospital — nine of them with life-threatening injuries.

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch says she is “rebuilding” the party and giving Britain a “serious alternative to Labour’s weakness.”

Speaking to mark her first year in charge, she said her focus has been on delivering a stronger economy and tougher borders. Badenoch became leader on the 2nd of November last year, defeating Robert Jenrick after Rishi Sunak resigned following the party’s general election defeat.

She said the past twelve months have been about rebuilding the party’s principles and plan for Britain.

The UK is set for unseasonably mild weather early next week, with temperatures expected to climb well above average for November.

The Met Office says parts of the south could reach 17 degrees Celsius on Monday — almost as warm as Madrid.

However, the milder conditions will bring cloud, rain, and strong winds sweeping in from the southwest.

A well-known make-up artist from Walsall says she now fears for her safety after a rise in racially motivated attacks across the West Midlands.

Ravita Pannu told the BBC she constantly looks over her shoulder and worries about her daughter’s safety.

It follows two reported racially aggravated rapes in nearby towns just ten miles apart within the past two months.
