Hong Kong’s anti-corruption agency has reportedly arrested six more people as part of the investigation into the high-rise fire that has claimed over one hundred lives.

The arrests, reported by the South China Morning Post, follow police action targeting the construction company responsible for renovations at the apartment complex. Previously, three men from the company, including two directors and an engineering consultant, were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, bringing the total to nine. Police said some towers were covered in protective mesh and plastic that may not meet fire safety standards, and that windows on an unaffected building had been sealed with foam installed during maintenance work by the construction company.

Manchester United’s proposed redevelopment of Old Trafford is one of twenty-two venues included in the UK’s joint bid to host the 2035 Women’s World Cup.

The stadium was not considered for the 2028 men’s European Championship and its redevelopment is still in planning. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are submitting the bid together, which stands unopposed and could be ratified by a vote at a Fifa congress in 2026.

The move comes after Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer wrote to President Emmanuel Macron urging support for the plan, saying there is currently no effective deterrent in the Channel, according to Le Monde. Baroness Harriet Harman says Rachel Reeves needs to make the case to voters that extending the freeze on personal income tax thresholds was the fairest way to increase taxes.

In her budget on Wednesday, Ms Reeves extended the freeze, first introduced by the Conservatives in 2021 and originally due to end in 2028, by a further three years. Critics have called the measure a stealth tax, with estimates suggesting it could raise eight billion pounds in 2029 to 2030 by moving around 1.7 million people into a higher tax band as wages rise.
