Robert Duvall, the actor best known for roles in The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, has died at the age of ninety five.

His wife announced his death in a statement posted on his Facebook page. Luciana Duvall said they had said goodbye to her beloved husband, cherished friend and one of the greatest actors of their time. She said he passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort.

A famous rock formation in Italy known as Lovers’ Arch has collapsed on Valentine’s Day after days of heavy rain and strong winds.

The landmark at Sant’Andrea in Melendugno, Puglia, was a popular tourist attraction on the Adriatic coast and often used for wedding proposals. Melendugno’s mayor, Maurizio Cisternino, described the collapse as an unwanted Valentine’s Day gift and said it was a very hard blow for the region and for tourism.

Six companies linked to the former Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, are being wound down, according to documents filed with Companies House.

She is listed as director of all six businesses, which are due to be struck off the register in ten days unless legal cause is shown to prevent it. The nature of the firms’ activities is unclear, although one relates to public relations and another to retail. None appear to have been very commercially active.

Two teenagers have been found guilty of the manslaughter of a man at a seaside resort after he arranged to meet a sixteen year old girl.

A girl and two boys, aged fifteen and sixteen, were on trial for the murder of Alexander Cashford in Leysdown on Sea on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent on the tenth of August last year. The girl and a fifteen year old boy denied manslaughter but were convicted, while a sixteen year old boy had already pleaded guilty. All three denied murder and cannot be named for legal reasons.

A court has heard that a pensioner with limited mobility was left in charge of ten XL bully dogs before she was killed.

Ashley Warren, forty one, is on trial at Chelmsford Crown Court accused of owning or being in charge of two XL bully dogs that killed sixty eight year old Esther Martin. Warren allegedly left Ms Martin with the two dogs, Beauty and Bear, and eight puppies at his home in Hillman Avenue in Jaywick, Essex, on the third of February twenty twenty four. Jurors were told he had asked her to look after the dogs while he travelled to London to film a music video.

A Royal Borough panel is to consider proposals from a Cookham based farm to provide entertainment and sell alcohol throughout the year alongside its turkey and meat products.

Copas Traditional Turkeys Limited submitted a licensing application last year for the benefit of its core farming business. The company has produced turkeys for families in the borough since nineteen fifty seven and sells products online, by telephone and for collection at Kings Coppice Farm in Grubwood Lane.

The executive producer of the television spy thriller Tehran has been found dead in a hotel in Athens, according to police.

Dana Eden was in Greece filming the fourth season of the show, Israeli state broadcaster Kan reported. Officers said the fifty two year old was discovered in her hotel room on Sunday after a relative made several unsuccessful attempts to contact her. An investigation has been launched into her death.

A further thirty six universities are facing legal action from more than one hundred and seventy thousand current and former students who say they did not receive the full education they paid for during the Covid pandemic.

It follows a settlement between University College London and the Student Claim Group, which now represents other students and graduates. Legal letters have been sent warning the institutions that damages will be sought for learning students claim they paid for but did not receive. The government at the time said universities set their own fees and were expected to deliver high quality education.

The prime minister has been speaking in London about online safety, saying the status quo is not good enough and legislation is taking too long to keep pace with technology.

Sir Keir Starmer outlined concerns including compulsive and excessive consumption of negative social media content. He argued that stronger action is needed to address harms linked to online platforms and emerging digital tools.

US forces have boarded another sanctioned oil tanker in the Indian Ocean after tracking it from the Caribbean, as part of efforts to target illicit vessels linked to Venezuela.

Military personnel carried out what was described as a right of visit, maritime interdiction and boarding of the tanker Veronica the Third, according to a social media post from the Department of War on Sunday. Venezuela has faced United States sanctions on its oil for several years and has relied on a shadow fleet of falsely flagged tankers to transport crude.

More than a dozen Royal Mail postal workers from different delivery offices say rounds are being missed daily and parcels are being prioritised over letters as staff are stretched beyond capacity.

Some told the BBC that letters can sit in depots for weeks. The union representing workers has described Royal Mail as a company in crisis. Hundreds of people have contacted BBC Your Voice reporting delays that have led to problems including missed hospital appointments. Royal Mail says the vast majority of mail is delivered as planned and it understands how frustrating delays can be.

A man accused of killing fifteen people after opening fire at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach has appeared in court for the first time.

Naveed Akram spoke briefly during a short hearing at a Sydney court on Monday, joining by video link from the high security Goulburn Correctional Centre. The twenty four year old faces fifty nine charges over the shooting on the fourteenth of December, including fifteen counts of murder, forty counts of wounding with intent to murder and a terror offence. Police allege he carried out the attack with his father Sajid, who was shot dead during the incident.

The government is expected in the coming weeks to set out plans to overhaul the system of support for children with special educational needs and disabilities in England.

The SEND system affects hundreds of thousands of families. Almost every Member of Parliament says it is among the issues most frequently raised by constituents, and last month the prime minister said it was probably mentioned more than any other topic in the House of Commons. Some Labour MPs are said to be uneasy about the proposals, mindful of previous controversies over winter fuel payments and welfare.

Royal Berkshire’s next Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive has been appointed following the retirement announcement of the current post holder after thirty three years in fire and rescue services.

Mark Arkwell, currently Deputy Chief Fire Officer, was selected after a rigorous recruitment process. He has more than twenty six years of experience with Surrey and Royal Berkshire. He said he was immensely proud to accept the role and described it as a great honour to lead dedicated public servants serving the community.
