US Vice President JD Vance has spoken briefly to reporters before boarding a flight to Pakistan for peace talks with Iran.

He is attending alongside special envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump’s son in law Jared Kushner. Vance said he was looking forward to negotiations and believed they would be positive, adding the president had given clear guidelines. He said the United States would extend an open hand if Iran negotiates in good faith but warned the team would not be receptive if it does not.

At least one person has died and twenty six others are in hospital after a bus crash in the Canary Islands.

The accident happened at one fifteen this afternoon when a tourist bus plunged into a ravine on the GM two highway in San Sebastian de La Gomera. Three of those injured are in a critical condition. All of the passengers on board were British.

A man has been arrested after two men and two women died attempting to cross the English Channel.

Kimberly Milne died aged twenty eight after being struck by multiple vehicles on the A90 in Dundee in July twenty twenty three. Lee Milne, aged forty, was found guilty of culpable homicide and domestic abuse. Police said she was clearly terrified and acted to escape him.

The European Union’s new digital border system is set to be fully operational from Friday.

The Entry Exit System will require fingerprints and photos alongside passport scans at Schengen borders. It has been gradually introduced since October to improve security and travel. However, some crossing points are not fully ready, with reports of long queues and warnings delays could worsen during busy holiday periods.

Police in London and Manchester will receive an extra five million pounds for patrols around places of worship.

The decline in support also follows US intervention in Venezuela. Research by Public First found fifty three percent of Britons now view the United States as a negative force in the world, an increase of nineteen percentage points since before American forces seized Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro in January.
