Tim Davie has resigned as the BBC’s Director-General, along with the corporation’s Head of News, Deborah Turness.

Their departures come ahead of an expected BBC apology on Monday over concerns about impartiality — including how a Panorama documentary edited a speech by US President Donald Trump. The programme, Trump: A Second Chance?, aired before last year’s US election and featured spliced clips from the former president’s January 6th address, making it appear he urged supporters to march on the Capitol.

In a message to staff, Davie said it was “entirely” his decision to step down.

The UK is deploying a specialist Royal Air Force team to Belgium to help defend its airspace after a series of “rogue drone” sightings.

The ground-based unit will use equipment designed to detect and disable unmanned aerial systems. Several incidents have forced Brussels Airport to close temporarily, and disrupted Belgian military bases.

While the source of the incursions remains unclear, defence officials say there are growing suspicions of Russian involvement.

Inspectors from Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission have found “systemic failings” in how Slough supports children with special educational needs and disabilities.

Their joint report says services run by Slough Borough Council, Slough Children First and NHS Frimley Integrated Care Board leave many young people “unprepared, unsupported and anxious about their future.” The regulators say the weaknesses in coordination and planning must be addressed urgently to improve outcomes for families.

The King will lead the nation in a two-minute silence at the Cenotaph this morning as part of the annual Remembrance Sunday service.

He’ll be joined by members of the Royal Family and senior politicians, who’ll lay wreaths in tribute to the fallen. Around 10,000 armed forces veterans will march past the memorial, organised by the Royal British Legion. This year’s service also marks 80 years since the end of the Second World War, with around 20 veterans from that conflict among those attending.

A man’s been charged with attempted murder after a woman was stabbed in the neck in Birmingham city centre.

West Midlands Police say 21-year-old Djeison Rafael, a black British national, is also accused of two further assaults and possession of a knife. Officers were called to Smallbrook Queensway shortly before nine on Friday night following reports of a stabbing. Rafael was reportedly wearing a grey tracksuit, black hat, trainers and a rucksack. The woman remains in hospital in a serious condition. Police are appealing for witnesses or footage.

It’s been revealed that Southport killer Axel Rudakubana hadn’t left his family home alone for more than two years before the attack that killed three young girls last summer.

The 17-year-old’s violent behaviour had already drawn the attention of police, social services, and mental health professionals. His parents, Alphonse Rudakubana and Laetitia Muzayire, admitted they knew he carried knives and had bought weapons online, but said they never believed he would commit such an atrocity. The inquiry continues this week.

Health experts are warning Britain could face its worst flu season in a decade after a sudden mutation of the virus.

The NHS has issued a “flu jab SOS” as infections rise earlier than expected. The new strain appears to evade some existing immunity, raising concerns about severe cases this winter.

The government has launched an independent review into the growing number of young people not in work, education or training.

Former Health Secretary Alan Milburn will lead the inquiry into what’s known as the “Neet” generation. Nearly one in eight people aged 16 to 24 now fall into that category, a figure described as a “crisis of opportunity” by ministers.

The chief inspector of prisons says the string of mistaken early prisoner releases is “a symptom of a system close to breaking point.” Charlie Taylor’s comments come after it was revealed two inmates wrongly freed last year remain at large, along with two more believed to have been released in error this summer. Writing in The Daily Telegraph, he described the situation as “embarrassing and potentially dangerous,” blaming it on […]
