Heat will build across the UK this weekend before a fifth widespread heatwave of the year is likely declared next week.

Temperatures could exceed thirty degrees in south-east England from Sunday. Yellow heat health alerts are in place for most of England until Tuesday, warning of impacts for health services and an increased risk to life for vulnerable people.

The M4 motorway will close next month to allow repairs to a damaged electricity tower.

The road will shut between junctions 10 and 11 from 21:00 on Friday, 18 September, to 06:00 on Monday, 21 September. In February, a fallen tree damaged a tower in Winnersh, Berkshire. Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks Distribution said the notice gives motorists ample time to plan alternative routes.

Passengers travelling to and from Bristol Airport face delays of up to seven hours after its runway was closed on Friday evening.
