Guilty Pleasure Songs We Secretly Love (Even If We Pretend We Don’t)

Everyone says they’ve got “great taste in music”.

Very curated playlists. Very cool artist selections. Very serious opinions about obscure B-sides from 1994.

But then something happens at a wedding, in a taxi, or late at night on the radio… and suddenly all that credibility disappears the moment a certain song comes on.

Because no matter how much we deny it, we all have guilty pleasure tracks.

The songs we loudly say we’ve “grown out of”… while quietly singing every word when nobody’s listening.

Here are some of the biggest guilty pleasure songs we all secretly love.

Barbie Girl by Aqua

You can pretend all you like.

The second this comes on, the room changes.

It’s bright, ridiculous, slightly annoying and completely unforgettable.

And yet everyone knows every single word.

Mambo No. 5 by Lou Bega

A song that somehow lists names and still became a global hit.

You might act like you’ve never heard it for months at a time.

Then it plays at a barbecue and suddenly you’re fully back in 1999 doing every lyric.

Can’t Get You Out of My Head by Kylie Minogue

Not even guilty in some circles anymore… but still secretly on a lot of playlists.

That hook does exactly what it says on the tin.

It gets stuck in your head and refuses to leave. Ever.

Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley

Once a 1980s classic.

Then an internet prank.

Now somehow both at the same time.

And despite everything, it still absolutely slaps when it comes on.

Livin’ La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin

Pure chaos in musical form.

Nobody puts this on ironically and stays ironic for long.

By the chorus, everyone is fully committed.

MMMBop by Hanson

A song that confused an entire generation… but also defined a summer.

Still impossible not to sing along to.

Even if you don’t fully know what the lyrics are actually about.

Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go by Wham!

Technically a pop masterpiece.

Emotionally, a full-body happiness trigger.

But yes, some people still call it a guilty pleasure while dancing like nobody’s watching.

Wannabe by Spice Girls

Nobody needs to admit they like this anymore.

We all just do.

From first notes to final chorus, it still shuts down any room it enters.

Macarena by Los del Río

Few songs have ever caused more coordinated dance chaos.

You don’t choose the Macarena.

The Macarena chooses you.

And before you know it, you’re doing hand movements you haven’t thought about since 1996.

Believe by Cher

The song that changed pop music with autotune.

And somehow still feels powerful, emotional and slightly futuristic all at once.

Everyone sings it. Nobody apologises for it.

Cotton Eye Joe by Rednex

There is no middle ground with this song.

You either immediately run away from it… or you’re suddenly stomping your feet like it’s a rural nightclub in 1995.

No in between.

Why We Love Guilty Pleasure Songs

The truth is simple.

There’s no such thing as guilty pleasure music.

Just songs that:

make us feel good
bring back memories
and make it impossible to stand still

Because when the right track comes on, nobody really cares about credibility.

They care about turning it up.
