A man has been charged with murder after a 34-year-old was killed when a car struck pedestrians in north west London on 3 December.
Shakaine Dwyer, 29, has been charged with killing Ruben Nunes, from Peterborough, the Metropolitan Police said on New Year’s Eve. Originally charged with causing death by dangerous driving on 7 December, the charge was upgraded to murder on Monday. Mr Dwyer, of Willesden, north west London, will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrate’s Court on 19 January.
A nurse has described being “beaten nearly to death” after a man went on a rampage with a crowbar in a Merseyside hospital.
Megan Lynch, 28, said she was at a vending machine at Newton Community Hospital in Newton-le-Willows when she was struck from behind. Six people were injured around midday on Tuesday after the man became aggressive following the denial of an appointment. Ms Lynch said: “I was beaten nearly to death with a crowbar by an unknown man, who started attacking me from behind.”

Finnish police have seized a cargo vessel suspected of damaging an undersea cable.
The ship, Fitburg, left Russia and was travelling to Israel when it was detained. Authorities believe it damaged a telecommunications cable linking Helsinki and Estonia’s capital Tallinn, owned by Finnish telecoms group Elisa. Police said Finnish authorities had taken control of the vessel during a joint operation.

Police said a twenty year old man was arrested at Newton Community Hospital in Newton le Willows on Tuesday. He is suspected of six counts of section eighteen wounding, affray and criminal damage, and was later detained under the Mental Health Act.
After thousands of people had their New Year travel plans disrupted, Eurostar says it intends to run all services today.
Trains to and from continental Europe on Eurostar and Le Shuttle were suspended for much of yesterday after a technical fault caused a power supply failure. The disruption affected passengers in London, Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam during one of the busiest travel weeks of the year. Eurostar says services have resumed today following the Channel Tunnel power issue and further overnight infrastructure problems.
More than £250,000 has been raised for a police officer who lost his wife and two children in a Boxing Day house fire.
An online appeal was launched after Fionnghuala Shearman, known as Nu, died with her daughter Eve, seven, and four year old son Ohner at their home near Stroud. Police say Gloucestershire Constabulary officer Tom Shearman escaped through a bathroom window but could not re enter because of the severity of the fire.
It may sound like science fiction, but a Cardiff based company is closer to making it real. Space Forge has sent a microwave sized factory into orbit and shown its furnace can be switched on, reaching temperatures of around one thousand degrees Celsius.
