Volodymyr Zelenskyy is preparing for key talks with Donald Trump tomorrow aimed at ending Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The meeting follows hours of Russian air attacks on Kyiv on Saturday, which left at least two people dead and more than thirty injured, according to officials. Zelenskyy has met Trump several times this year, most recently at the White House in October, as the US continues to lead diplomatic efforts to end the conflict. Tomorrow, they will meet in Florida to discuss territory, security guarantees, and the future of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, Zelenskyy has said.

A twenty-two-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a teenager was stabbed to death in north London.

Metropolitan Police confirmed Abdel Dedour was detained on Boxing Day following a two-week manhunt after the fatal stabbing of fifteen-year-old Adam Henry. The incident occurred in Islington around 1pm on 9 December. Paramedics and officers attended and the boy was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries. Investigations into the circumstances of the attack are ongoing.

Angola and Namibia have agreed to take back illegal migrants and criminals after the home secretary threatened visa bans if they did not comply.

In November, Shabana Mahmood warned that the Democratic Republic of Congo could face similar sanctions. While Angola and Namibia were praised for meeting “the gold standard” by improving processes, the DRC failed to act. Police are searching for a man who escaped from prison on Christmas Day.

Mahad Elmi, aged twenty seven, is on the run after absconding from HMP Spring Hill in Buckinghamshire, according to Thames Valley Police. The escape happened overnight from Thursday into Boxing Day at the open prison near Grendon Underwood. Spring Hill holds more than three hundred inmates and is a Category D jail with minimal security, allowing eligible prisoners to spend time away on licence for work, education or resettlement.

Police have released images of two people they want to speak to after an aggravated robbery involving a teenager in Windsor.

Four men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a twenty year old man was shot on Christmas Day in Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police said emergency services were called to Wilfred Drive in the Darnall area at eleven twenty seven pm. The victim was shot in the chest and remains in a critical, life threatening condition in hospital.

NHS bosses have apologised after the wrong body was cremated following a mix up at a hospital mortuary in Glasgow.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said staff involved have been suspended and an investigation has been launched. The health board blamed human error at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Families have been informed and the patients remains are now with funeral directors supporting them.

Thailand and Cambodia have agreed a ceasefire to end weeks of armed fighting along their shared border over disputed territory.

The agreement took effect at noon local time. It calls for an end to hostilities, no further military movements by either side, and no violations of airspace for military purposes. During the clashes only Thailand carried out airstrikes, hitting targets in Cambodia as recently as Saturday morning, according to the Cambodian defence ministry.

Details of the government’s planned military gap year scheme have been published.

The programme was announced earlier this year and aims to encourage more young people to consider serving in the Armed Forces. The i Paper reports it will open in March twenty twenty six for under twenty fives, starting with around one hundred and fifty recruits initially.
