England are celebrating their third Women’s Rugby World Cup title after overpowering Canada 33–13 in the final.

Alex Matthews crossed twice, with Ellie Kildunne, Amy Cokayne and Abbie Ward also scoring tries. Ranked number one in the world, the Red Roses stormed into a 13-point lead by half-time in front of a record home crowd at Twickenham’s Allianz Stadium. England extended their dominance, adding the trophy to their seventh straight Six Nations crown earlier this year, and stretching their unbeaten run to 33 matches.

Russia’s foreign minister has rejected claims the Kremlin is preparing to attack NATO countries.

Sergei Lavrov said Moscow had been wrongly accused of violating eastern European airspace with jets and drones in recent weeks. He insisted President Putin had “repeatedly debunked such provocations” and that Russia has no intention of targeting the alliance. Lavrov added, though, that any aggression against Russia would be met with what he called a decisive response.

Prince Harry has dismissed reports suggesting his reunion with the King was unexpectedly formal.

The Sun claimed he joked about being treated like an official visitor rather than family. But a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex said the story was “categorically false,” describing the quotes as pure invention designed to undermine any chance of reconciliation between father and son.

A man has been charged with murder after a body was discovered in a derelict building in south London.

Thirty-nine-year-old Daniel Watkis was arrested on Thursday and charged the following day. Police had been investigating the disappearance of Junior Ryan Coleman, reported missing on 20 August. His body was found in Brockley Road, Lewisham, on 19 September.

Graham Potter has been sacked by West Ham after just nine months in charge.

He took over from Julen Lopetegui in January on a two-and-a-half-year deal but leaves with the club second-bottom of the Premier League. In a statement, West Ham said results and performances over the second half of last season and the start of this one had not met expectations. The board added a change was necessary to improve the team’s position, just days before their match against Everton.

The chancellor Rachel Reeves is pushing for an ambitious youth migration deal with the EU.

She says an exchange scheme for young workers would be good for the economy, growth and business. The UK agreed in principle to a youth experience visa in May, but details are still being negotiated. Reeves wants the Office for Budget Responsibility to factor in the potential benefits before the autumn Budget, which she hopes could reduce the need for tax rises or spending cuts.

Luxury department store Harrods has warned customers their personal details may have been taken in a cyber security breach.

Information such as names and contact details was taken from the systems of a third-party provider. Harrods stressed that no passwords or payment data were compromised. The company described it as an isolated incident that has since been contained and confirmed that relevant authorities have been notified.

King Charles’s long-debated planning ideas are helping shape the government’s next wave of new towns.

A housing ministry official told a King’s Foundation event that twelve towns are set to be announced, designed to be walkable and environmentally friendly, with terraced housing and mansion blocks rather than high-rise towers. TV architect George Clarke said the King’s once-controversial views have now become part of the mainstream.
