Coastguard and RNLI teams searching for two missing men off a beach in Devon have now been stood down.

The men, aged in their forties and sixties, were believed to be in the water near Budleigh Salterton. Although several people were rescued earlier, the two men were not found, remain missing, and their families have been informed. Searches ended there.

Ukraine has struck a major Russian oil refinery using British supplied missiles, according to Ukrainian military and security officials.

Storm Shadow missiles caused multiple explosions at the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in Rostov, the Ukrainian General Staff said. It added on Telegram that multiple explosions were recorded and confirmed the target was hit. The officials spoke on Thursday about the strike.

Police say a woman in her eighties has died after an assault in a flat in Wiltshire on Christmas Day.

A sixty three year old woman, known to the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to hospital with non life changing injuries. Officers and paramedics attended an address in Keepers Road, Devizes, where victim was declared dead.

A nursery has brought the spirit of Christmas to Slough after raising one thousand pounds for charity.

Millwood House Day Nursery secured the money for the Slough Salvation Army with help from children, families, staff and local businesses. For a second year, the nursery hosted a festive fundraiser night with carol singing by pupils and the Salvation Army band together locally.
