NATO has announced it will strengthen Europe’s eastern flank following what it called Russia’s “reckless and unacceptable” breach of Polish airspace.

Operation Eastern Sentry will see additional equipment and troops deployed along the borders with Belarus, Russia and Ukraine, with UK military resources included. Poland shot down Russian drones that crossed its territory on Wednesday, which NATO says was an attempt by Moscow to test the alliance’s response. It comes amid growing fears the war in Ukraine could spread further into Europe.

The suspect in the killing of Charlie Kirk has been named as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, according to NBC News, citing senior law enforcement officials.

Born in 2003, Robinson is from Utah. President Trump said a minister played a crucial role in his arrest, explaining that someone close to Robinson went to his father, who then contacted a US Marshal.

Donald Trump says the suspect in the killing of Charlie Kirk has been caught. Speaking to Fox News, the president said, “with a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody.”

Trump praised local police and Utah’s governor, adding that the suspect was reportedly turned in by someone close to him, with the help of a minister or father figure.

A man has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 34 years after a gangland shooting in east London left a nine-year-old girl with a bullet lodged in her brain.

Thirty-three-year-old Javon Riley helped the gunman escape after six shots were fired at the Evin Restaurant in Dalston last May. He was convicted of attempting to murder three men targeted in the attack, and of causing grievous bodily harm to the girl. Prosecutors say the shooting was ordered by the Tottenham Turks gang against their Hackney rivals.

Stephen Lawrence’s mother has renewed her appeal for witnesses to come forward as a new review into her son’s murder begins.

Baroness Doreen Lawrence said it represents the last chance for justice and admitted she cannot grieve until it is achieved. Investigators from the College of Policing are examining information held by the Metropolitan Police to identify any missed opportunities. The review will be carried out independently of the Met.

A major UN report has found North Korea is increasingly using the death penalty, including for people caught watching or sharing foreign films and TV dramas.

It also accuses the regime of forcing more people into labour and further tightening restrictions on freedoms. The Human Rights Office says no other population faces such severe restrictions, with state surveillance becoming more pervasive thanks to new technology.

A new nursery will open in Slough this September at The Langley Heritage Primary School.

The school has been chosen as one of 300 across the UK to expand nursery provision, with the project run by the Arbib Education Trust.

The Langley Heritage Nursery will welcome its first children at the start of the new school year.

Local MP Tan Dhesi says the funding from the Labour government will give children the very best early years support before they start school.

A spokesperson for the nursery said the focus will be on providing high-quality care in a safe and nurturing environment.

The UK economy showed no growth in July, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.

Gross Domestic Product, which measures the value of everything produced in the economy, was flat at zero percent. That follows growth of 0.4 percent in June.

Economists had predicted the slowdown, and analysts say monthly GDP numbers are often volatile. They add that quarterly figures give a clearer picture of the economy’s overall health.

The FBI has released new video and images of a man wanted over the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Footage shows the suspect on the roof of the building where the fatal shot was fired, before climbing down and heading into nearby woodland, where police say he left his rifle.

Additional pictures show him wearing a hat, sunglasses, and a backpack.

Utah governor Spencer Cox said nearly 200 interviews have already been carried out, with around 20 law enforcement agencies now working on the investigation.

Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro has been sentenced to more than 27 years in prison for attempting a coup to remain in power after his 2022 election defeat.

The 70-year-old far-right leader, who governed from 2019 to 2022, is currently under house arrest in the capital, Brasilia.

A panel of five Supreme Court judges found him guilty on five counts, including plotting a coup, membership of an armed criminal group, and attempting to dismantle Brazil’s democratic rule of law through violence.

The ruling also said his actions posed a serious threat to state assets and national heritage.
