Pubs in the 90s: Smoke, Jukeboxes and Last Orders

For many Gen Xers, a night out in the 90s didn’t mean booking online, checking reviews, or planning weeks in advance. It meant finishing work, meeting your mates, and heading to the pub. Simple as that. Before smoking bans, before smartphones, and before every bar started to look the same, the local pub had its own personality. Whether it was your regular, the one near work, or the place everyone went on a Friday night, pubs were at the centre […]

Chief executive Saad al Kaabi said repairs to the site, which cost twenty six billion dollars to build, could take between three and five years. Iran struck a facility linked to the North Field, the Qatari side of the world’s largest natural gas field, pushing oil and gas prices higher. Al Kaabi said he never expected Qatar to face […]

When the Radio Was the Only Way to Hear New Music

Before streaming, before downloads, and long before playlists built by algorithms, there was one main way to discover new music. You listened to the radio. For Gen X, the radio wasn’t just background noise. It was where you heard songs for the first time, found new bands, and waited all week to catch your favourites. You didn’t choose the music whenever you wanted. You waited for it, and that made it feel more exciting when it finally played. Waiting for […]

The result at Holyrood was fifty nine votes against and sixty seven in favour, with one abstention. Sources had said before the vote the outcome was too close to predict, but the bill has […]

The Cars We Learned to Drive In: A Gen X Road Down Memory Lane

For many Gen Xers, getting behind the wheel for the first time wasn’t just about learning a skill—it was a rite of passage. The freedom of the open road, the nervous glances from parents in the passenger seat, and the little cars that carried us through those first miles all hold a special place in our memories. Classic First Cars When it came to first cars in the 80s and 90s, small hatchbacks dominated. Think the Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Nova, […]

Sharafat Zaman, a health ministry spokesman, earlier reported more than 200 deaths and said all parts of the treatment facility had been destroyed. A Russian natural gas […]

Mother’s Day Traditions: How We Celebrated Then and How We Celebrate Now

Mother’s Day has always been one of those dates that sneaks up on you. One minute it’s February, the next you’re suddenly trying to remember if you bought a card, booked a table, or at least made a phone call. For Gen X, Mother’s Day carries a lot of memories, not just of celebrating our own mums, but of how the day felt growing up in the 70s, 80s and 90s. Back then it was called Mothering Sunday just as […]
